Position:  Drive Time News Anchor/Reporter

Lotus Seattle in Seattle, Washington is seeking a dynamic and experienced Drive Time News Anchor/Reporter for its heritage news station, Northwest Newsradio 97-7, AM 1000.   The ideal candidate will help prepare and deliver an engaging prime-time newscast as part of an on-air duo, then produce a compelling story to air in other newscasts.

The Drive Time News Anchor/Reporter position at Northwest Newsradio is the main news connection between our station and its listeners.  You are the voice of your assigned show and expected to anchor special news or breaking news coverage when it happens.  This position becomes an overall ambassador for our brand, and is expected to also work at special events, and alongside our sales staff to promote the station to Northwest Newsradio clients and endorse their businesses if requested.

 

Primary, daily responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

Content Creation.  Plan, prepare, and produce material for newscast.

Co-host daily newscast.  Work alongside established anchor and build a team that further engages our audience.

Produce post show content.  Develop, write, and produce a daily contribution to a newscast that airs later in the day.

Engage listeners in social media.  Post and interact with listeners both during and after broadcast.

Participate regularly in station promotions and appearances.

Participate regularly in charity events representing Northwest Newsradio.

Work with sales team.  This means participating on sales calls to clients as well as being available for client endorsements.

Be available for any other assignment from the Director of News and Programming.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field preferred

On-air radio or television news reading experience in a large market

Minimum of 5 years on air exposure in the Seattle or other major market

Passionate and Knowledgeable about the news of the day, and the names of those regularly in the news

Excellent verbal communications skills

Excellent storytelling ability

Excellent writing skills

Good ability to work efficiently, quickly and accurately turning material for on air, social media, and our website

Good ability to incorporate natural sound and music into stories when appropriate

Good knowledge of radio editing software including Adobe Audition and similar programs

Familiarity with NewsBoss news software

Positive attitude and ability to work both independently and as a team

Working Conditions and Travel Requirements

Five days in the office per week.

May require travel to station promotion events and/or high-profile news events.

Valid drivers’ license with good driving record.

 

NOTE: This position is an on-site role that requires the employee to work a full day at our Seattle studios in order to help build a healthy culture and team at Lotus Seattle.

Compensation Range

$85,000 – 110,000

Salary will be determined from an evaluation of the experience, education, and abilities of the applicant, along with internal and external benchmarks.

The perfect candidate has a minimum of 5 years’ experience in major market media, is proficient and aggressive in social media, is an excellent writer, and embraces using digital platforms (podcasting, streaming audio, streaming video) to promote the Northwest Newsradio brand.
