POSITION:  Chief Engineer

Job Description:

The Chief Broadcast Engineer’s responsibilities combine the management of technological assets as well as station administrative tasks.   Working closely with the local GM’s and the Director of Engineering, steer the departments in a direction that brings our environment up to Lotus standards, maintain good engineering practice in all new installations, and develop and implement a series of preventive maintenance tasks and accompanying documentation.  Oversee and direct the day-to-day activities of all stations in two markets, Fresno and Bakersfield, in order to run efficiently and minimize downtime as to limit financial losses.

Performs preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and operation of video, audio, and radio frequency (RF) systems, including satellite and microwave equipment.

Must have working knowledge of broadcast and production systems.

Extensive knowledge of computer networking, broadcast automation and transmitter support and engineering.  Ability to resolve complex problems not covered by existing procedures or practices independently often whilst under pressure.

Self-motivated to work independently under timeline to achieve departmental and station goals

Ability to comprehend schematics, mechanical drawings and technical manuals

Provide preventive maintenance, emergency repairs and operations of video, audio and radio frequency (RF) systems, including satellite and microwave equipment

Provide world class customer service to all business partners internal and external to the organization with a positive “can do” attitude

Support, maintain, and install the full range of broadcast, Radio Frequency (RF), and production systems based on both Serial Digital Interface (SDI), and Internet Protocol (IP) based architecture

Set up and enhance software, hardware, server, automation and workflow systems, projects and equipment to enable our teams to be both productive and efficient

Ensure all stations meet current industry standards and comply with Company policies and expectations

Partner with the programming department to develop, build and support content workflow and support systems including integration and problem-solving software, hardware, networking and infrastructure

Contribute to budget planning with the team and Director of Engineering to support business needs

Design improvements to our operation

Knowledge of FCC Rules and Regulations.

Maintain logs and reports as per FCC Rules and Regulations

Provide, enhance, and utilize proactive monitoring systems to anticipate technical issues and be able to act accordingly

Update technical plan documentation when installations are completed to include changes that are made

Document and maintain records of equipment repairs

Research part numbers and pricing to determine where to purchase and the cost of repairs

Operate studio, news and control room equipment

Perform other duties as assigned

A qualified applicant should possess the following:

Strong self-starter with self-discipline & self-motivation

Ability to prioritize tasks and work within deadlines

Good computer skills (MS Office)

Pay:  $90,000-$130,000
